Oxyrhynchus: A City and its Texts, Virtual Exhibition: Navigation

St.Matthew’s Gospel: various dates, 2nd - 6th cent.AD

Fragments from six different papyrus codex manuscripts of St.Matthew’s Gospel. No.4406 (lower right) dates from the fifth or sixth century, but the others may all be as early as the second or third century; only 12 papyri of the Gospel thought to be pre-AD 400 were previously known.
